From 18 November 2025, not only any directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. This requirement is part of wider reforms to help prevent the misuse of UK companies.
Identity verification requirements for limited partnerships, limited liability partnerships, corporate members of LLPs and eligible Scottish firms, and overseas companies, will be introduced at a later date.
You will have the option to verify your identity directly with Companies House using GOV.UK One Login. However, ACRA Law Ltd, as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), can complete the verification process on your behalf, using the required information.
For more information or to discuss your specific requirements, please contact our team. We would be happy to arrange a call or meeting to support you through the process.
18 November marks the start of a transition year where all company directors will have 12 months from this date to comply with the verification identity rule.
For example, if your company’s confirmation statement is due on 31 March 2026, all directors must be verified by that date.
You’ll need to provide the personal code and verification statement for each director on the confirmation statement. If you do not do this, your company will not be able to submit the form.
If you’re a director of multiple companies, you’ll need to do this for each company separately, using the same personal code each time.
Check when your next confirmation statement is due to make sure you complete the process on time.
From 18 November, you’ll need to provide identity verification details to incorporate a new company or appoint a director.
You’ll need to provide your personal code to Companies House to verify via an ACSP. This will be an online service available to do this when the requirement comes into effect on 18 November.
Every PSC will have a 14-day period during which they must provide their personal code.
The details you’ll likely need depend on whether:
